Nothing Where Something Should Be (2023)

In the fall of 2023 i created the spatial sound work ‘Nothing Where Something Should be’, which was the culmination of a 3-month artistic exploration into spatial sound. The sound work was written primarily through two residencies, one at MONOM in Berlin and one at ZiMMT in leipzig.

In short the project delved into the emotional responses tied to liminal spaces. This aesthetic concept describes locations that exist as transitional spaces between two places or locations that evoke a sense of being between two states of being. In these spatial compositions, written for the 48.9 4DSOUND-system at MONOM Berlin, and for the 32.2 channel sound-dome at ZiMMT Leipzig, field recordings from abandoned spaces around Berlin, was transcribed into an immersive experience.

Commuting between drone-filled soundscapes, eerie-sounding entities the sound work delved into the unique sensation of being in-between, inspired by the haunted state, and mystique of these abandoned spaces.
